- With zinc it is known as ‘brass’
- With tin known as ‘bronze’.
WHAT ARE ITS USES?
- Automobiles
- Defense industries
- Electrical industry for making wires, motors, transformers, generators etc.
WHERE IS IT LOCATED IN INDIA?
- Mining is costly and tedious.
- Copper ore is found in ancient as well as in younger rock formations.
- India is a poor in reserves and production.
- India has low grade copper ore.
- Major copper ore deposits are:
- Singhbhum district (Jharkhand)
- Balaghat district (Madhya Pradesh)
- Jhunjhunu and Alwar districts (Rajasthan)
- Imports from the USA, Canada, Zimbabwe, Japan, etc.

- Nickel is a lustrous metal.
- It has high resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
- It has excellent strength and toughness at high temperatures.
- It is hard with great tensile strength.
- Nickel + Copper/Silver = Coins.

WHAT ARE ITS USES?
- For manufacturing aeroplanes.
- Internal combustion engines.
- Storage batteries
- Used as a catalyst in making soap vanaspati
- Used for making bullet jackets
WHERE IS IT LOCATED IN INDIA?
- It is found in Odisha (92%).
- In east Sighbhum district, Jharkhand.
- Found with uranium at Jaduguda, Jharkhand.
- Also in Karnataka, Kerala and Rajasthan.
