- Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)
- Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
- National Investigation Agency (NIA)
WHAT IS CENTRAL VIGILANCE COMMISSION (CVC)?
- It is the main agency to prevent the corruption in central government.
- It was constituted in 1964.
COMPOSITION AND TENURE OF CVC
- Composition: Central Vigilance Commissioner + Vigilance Commissioners (not more than 2 )
- Tenure: 4 years or till they attain the age of 65 years.
WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF CVC?
- Receives complaints on corruption or misuse of office.
- Exercise superintendence over the functioning of CBI.
- Exercise superintendence over the vigilance administration in the ministries.
- Advise to the Central government and its authorities on such matters as are referred to it by them.
WHAT IS CENTRAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION?
- It is the main investigating agency of the central government.
- It is headed by a Director appointed by the central government.
WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF CBI?
- Investigate cases of corruption, bribery and misconduct of Central government employees.
- Investigate serious crimes
- Coordinate the activities various state police forces
- On the request of a state government, investigate any case of public importance
- Provides assistance to the Central Vigilance Commission and Lokpal.
WHAT IS NATIONAL INVESTIGATION AGENCY?
- It is a central investigation agency to counter terrorism.
- It was constituted in 2008 after the Mumbai terror attack.
WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF NIA?
- Investigate and prosecute offences of terrorism under NIA Act,2008.
- Provides assistance to other intelligence and investigation agencies.
- Facilitate speedy and effective trial.
