WHAT ARE ITS TYPES?
MAGNETITE
- It is the most important and best amongst all iron ore.
- It contains around 72% metallic iron.
- It is found in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, etc.
HEMATITE
- It contains around 60-70 % of metallic iron.
- It is Reddish Brown in color.
- It is found in Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra etc.
LIMONITE
- It contains around 30- 40 % metallic iron.
- It is mostly yellow in color.
- It is a low-grade iron ore.
SIDERITE
- It has more impurities than others.
- It contains around 48 % metallic iron.
- It is brown in color.
- It contains a mixture of iron and carbon.
WHERE ARE RESERVES OF IRON ORE LOCATED IN INDIA?
- The highest producer is the Odisha -Jharkhand belt, Durg- Bastar -Chandrapur belt, the Maharashtra- Goa belt.
- About 95% of total reserves of iron ore are found in the States of Odisha, Goa, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka.
- Odisha is leading state in India.
- Odisha (55%) > Chhattisgarh (17%), Karnataka (14%) and Jharkhand (11%).
