WHAT IS SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT?

  • It distributes power among different parts and levels of the Government.
  • The modern democratic governments are classified in two system
    • Parliamentary
    • Presidential system

 

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM AND PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM

Parliamentary System

Presidential System

  It is the system of government in which a group of individuals run the government

  It is the system of government in which only an individual runs the government

  Here, the members of government (Cabinet Ministers) are drawn from the Parliament.

   Here, the President appoints the member (Cabinet Ministers) to the Government

 Hence, It is also known as responsible government. E.g. India, UK

  It is known as non-responsible/ fixed executive system of government. E.g. USA

 

WHAT INDIA HAS ADOPTED?

  • The Indian Constitution adopted for a Parliamentary form of government.
  • It is adopted at the Centre and in the States

 

FEATURES OF PARLIAMENTARY GOVERNMENT

  • Nominal and Real Executives:
    • President is the nominal executive.
    • Prime Minister is the real executive
  • Majority Party Rule:
    • Here, the political party which secures majority seats in the Lok Sabha forms the government.

 

FEATURES OF PARLIAMENTARY GOVERNMENT

  • Collective Responsibility
    • The ministers are collectively responsible to the Lok Sabha.
  • Double Membership:
    • The ministers are members of both the legislatures and the executive.
  • Leadership of Prime Ministers
    • The PM is the leader of the house. 
    • He makes the policies of the Government.
