WHO IS PRESIDENT OF INDIA?
- Articles 52 to 78 in Part V of the Constitution deal with the Union executive.
- The Union executive consists of the
- President
- Vice President
- Prime Minister
- Council of ministers
- Attorney General of India
- The President is the Head of the Indian State.
- She is the first citizen of India.
- She acts as the symbol of unity, integrity and solidarity of the nation.
WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR PRESIDENT?
- Indian Citizenship
- Minimum Age: 35 Years
- Not hold office of Profit
- Qualified to be a Lok Sabha Member
ELECTORAL COLLEGE FOR PRESIDENT ELECTION
- Elected Members of Lok Sabha: 543
- Elected Members of Rajya Sabha: 233
- Elected members of all Legislative assemblies of all States.
- Elected members of UTs with Legislative Assemblies: Delhi, Puducherry, J&K
Note: Delhi & Puducherry voting rights: 70th Constitutional Amendment, 1992.
ELECTION PROCESS OF PRESIDENT
- Through a secret Ballot paper system.
- Candidate getting more than 50% votes win the elections
* Can be reappointed as many times.
- Vote System: Proportional Representation by means of Single Transferrable Vote system.
- Tenure: 5 Years
- Oath: Chief Justice of India
