QUALIFICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP OF PARLIAMENT
WHAT IS DIVISION OF POWER IN INDIAN CONSTITUTION?
- The Indian Constitution has provided for the democratic form of Government.
- There are three organs in the democratic government:
- The Legislature
- The Executive
- The Judiciary
- Under the Legislative Organ of Government, there is
- Parliament at Central Level
- State Legislature at State Level
- The Parliament consists of:
- President
- Lok Sabha
- Rajya Sabha
WHAT ARE QUALIFICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP OF PARLIAMENT?

- Indian Citizenship.
- Registered in electoral list of any Parliamentary constituency of India.
- Must be a sound person.
- Must not be convicted by the court with imprisonment of 2 or more years.
- Must not be less than 25 years of age.
- Note: Minimum age to become Lok Sabha member: 25 Years
- Note: Minimum age to become Rajya Sabha member: 30 Years
WHAT ARE DISQUALIFICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP OF PARLIAMENT?
- If he holds any office of profit.
- If he is of unsound mind.
- If he acquires the citizenship of any other country.
- Absent from the parliament for continuous 60 days without any permission.
- If he is guilty of any election corruption.
- Note: The final decision of disqualification is taken by Lok Sabha Speaker and it comes under judicial review under Kihota Holloham vs. Zachilhu case, 1992.
