WHAT IS DIVISION OF POWER IN INDIAN CONSTITUTION?
- The Indian Constitution has provided for the democratic form of Government.
- There are three organs in the democratic government:
- The Legislature
- The Executive
- The Judiciary
- Under the Legislative Organ of Government, there is
- Parliament at Central Level
- State Legislature at State Level
WHAT DOES PARLIAMENT CONSISTS OF?
- PRESIDENT
- LOK SABHA
- RAJYA SABHA
ORGANISATION OF RAJYASABHA
- At present: 245 members & Maximum: 250.
- Note: Out of 245 members, 12 are nominated by President from 4 fields-Art, Literature, Science, Social service.
- The constituents/ seats are divided among the states & UTs according to the population.
- The Rajya Sabha member are indirectly elected by the state legislative assemblies of the respective states.
RAJYASABHA MEMBERS TENURE
- The tenure of Rajya Sabha member is 6 years.
- But, unlike Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha members do not retire in one go.
- After every 2 years, one-third members get retired.
