• China is said to be the origin of sericulture.
•  In India, it started around in 140 AD.

• Silk production is divided into two stages:

1. Pre-cocoon
2. Post-cocoon

• Low export earnings due to the global recession and decreased demand.
• Exports are impacted by the rupee's depreciation.
