RESOURCES FROM OCEANS

Ocean Resources are all the natural resources including plant and animal life, minerals, energy sources, and water etc. in the oceans. The ocean contains 97% of the planet’s water, making it a vital source of resources for humans.

PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS

Petra means rock; Oleum means oil. These are non-renewable energy sources. Petroleum can be used to make gasoline, diesel fuel, and of other products.

COPPER AND NICKEL

Good conductor of electricity. Can be drawn out into wire. Iron and nickel make stainless steel.

CHROMITE AND COBALT

Chromite is an oxide of iron and chromium. It is a, lustrous, hard, and brittle metal. Resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and wear.

ORES OF METAL USED IN ALLOYS: MANGANESE AND TUNGSTEN

It is not found as a free element. It is often found with iron. Its most important ore is pyrolusite.

It is a valuable metal. It is used for making ornaments. It is of universal use. It usually occurs in rocks or minerals containing gold.

DIAMOND AND GRAPHITE

It has been the most valuable among gems. It is the hardest naturally occurring substance. Found in igneous rocks and alluvial deposits.
